The constuction of the Banknote Printing Company’s building, based on the plans of Swiss architects was completed. The company’s headquarters is still in this building these days.

1925

Establishment of the Banknote Printing Company of Central Bank of Hungary.

1926

Design and printing of the Pengő banknote series under the guidance of the innovative graphic designer, Endre Horváth.

1946

Design of Forint banknote series led by the Banknote Printing Company’s artists.

1949

Production of the first postage stamp series by intaglio technology.

1956

The beginning of passport printing.

1957

The first postage stamp series made by offset printing.

1958

The Banknote Printing Company begins printing personal identification documents.

1991

Design and printing of compensation notes.

1993

The Banknote Printing Company acquires Diósgyőr Paper Mill.

1993

Domestic tax stamp and banderole printing is established by the order of the Hungarian Customs and Finance Guard.

1997

The National Bank of Hungary becomes a 100% shareholder in the Banknote Printing Company.

1997

New Forint banknote series is designed by Károly Vagyóczky. The printing begins with the 10,000 and 2,000 denomination banknotes.

1998

The banknotes of other denominations (200, 500, 1000 Forints) in the new series are printed.

1998

Printing of MRTD (machine readable) passports with laser engraving personalisation.

1999

The banknotes 5,000 and 20,000 Forint denominations in the new series are printed.

2000

A new 10,000 Forint banknote with the sign “MILLENIUM” is issued.

2000

A jubilee 2,000 Forint banknote with gold hologram is issued.

2001

A card plant is established, and the manufacture of traditional and chip cards begins.

Production of BALE certified electronic signature cards.

Domestic and international delivery of the EU’s Schengen visas and residence permits.

Production and personalisation of EU compliant, state recognised language examination certificates in four languages.

2006

Production of the 500 Forint banknote on the 50th anniversary of the 1956 revolution.

Production of the Hungarian electronic (chip) passport range begins.

Production and personalisation of digital tachograph cards begins.

2009

The security level of Hungarian passports is increased by including biometric data.

Production of advanced security transportation chip cards.

Production and personalization of chip bank cards begins.

Delivery of the Hungarian Sailing Card and the corresponding system integration solution.

Production of the new student chip cards.

2014

Delivery of the PKI solution serving the authentication of registrars and the registrars’ cards.

2014

Design of the further developed banknote series and production of the first denomination, the 10,000 Forint banknote.

2017

The official document personalization centre is established; Personalization of the Hungarian passport range, student card and driver’s licence begins.

2019

Further denominations of the new banknote series are produced entirely digitally, meaning the whole process is significantly improved, including banknote printing, quality assurance and quality management systems.

Production of “Herman Ottó” specimen banknote.
